Cockles of the Heart

The expression is redundant. "Cockle" is here used as another name for "heart"--from the fact that the cockle-shell and the heart are very much alike. Indeed, the zoological name for the "cockle" is cardium from kardie the Grek word for "heart"Why Do We Say It?

How did lollipops get their name? What's long about a longshoreman? Why do we pass the buck? is also a great way to expand your vocabulary and enjoy doing it.

Lovely

Dreaming of lovely things, brings favor to all persons connected with you.

For a lover to dream that his sweetheart is lovely of person and character, foretells for him

a speedy and favorable marriage.

If through the vista of dreams you see your own fair loveliness, fate bids you, with a

gleamin light, awake to happiness.

Love. Why do we use the word "love" to mean "nothing in tennis ?

The term comes from the French l'oeuf, meaning "egg" because an egg looks like a "0" When the game was imported into England from France the term was also introduced, but its spelling was changed to "love". We sometimes call a zero a "goose egg"

Hobnob. Why do we say two people in intimate conversation are " hobnobbing" together?

The term was once spelled :habnab" and its meaning was "have and not have." As a synonym for "give and take" it's an apt description of an intimate conversation.

Learn by Heart. How does it happen we say we learn things "by heart" instead of "by head"?

It's because of a mistaken analysis of anatomical fundctions made by the ancient Greeks. They

placed the seat of thought in the heart.

worth $1000

Make a picture worth $1,000

Buyers are much more likely to bid and buy when they can see a photograph of the item. Since
your customer can't physically pick up and inspect the merchanduse, you've got to make up for it with illustration. Would you spend much money on something if you didn't know what it looked
like? Probably not. (There are a few exceptions - if you're selling and inexpensive book or video,
you can probably get by with using eBay's "stock" photo of the cover artwork- but even then, you're at a disadvantage with other sellers if you don't back it up with a good description.)

If you don't display a picture of your item, buyers may wonder whether you really have the item in stock, or are hiding some horrible defect. If you don't already use a digital camera, now is the time to get one and learn how to use it. An inexpensive used camera with two megapixels will work just fine for eBay pictures. You should be able to find a suitable camera on eBay for $25 or less.
