More than 800 species of birds

Magnificent Hummingbird  - Eugenes fulgens -
Adult male is green above, with purple crown;
metallic green throat; breast and upper  belly black and green;
lower belly dull brown.  Tail is dark green and deeply notched
Female is duller, lacks purple crown; squarish tail has small
grayish-white tips on outer feathers; compare female female Blue-
throated Hummingbird. Fairly common in high mountain meadows,
canyons. Casual north of mapped range. Distinctive call is a sharp - chip -
formerly called Rivoli's Hummingbird
