its S E X Y

If your house is anthing like mine, it's overflowing. Tools, cooking gadgets, books, pottery collections, not to menton the kid's toys and those school art projects too precious to throw away------ the trappings of modern life that pile up and easily overwhelm every inch of exiwting storage. For those of us in old houses, finding a place for all this stuff is a particular challenge, because space is already at a premium. While earlier generations surely had fewer things, they were also better at hiding them. Built-ins had been used for centuries before they became wildly popular in homes constructed during the early 20th century. In addition to being a terrific architectural element, they helped tame the mass of personal objects crowding new, smaller suburban dwellings. Since readers ask us constantly about nways to create storage space in old houses, we focused two articles in the issue on the subject

Texas beef ?

The biggest cattle state is seeing its herd shrink.

Fewer Angus, Brahman and cross-bred calves dot the wide open spaces of Texas.

Since 1995, the state's beef cow inventory has shrunk 12.8 percent, from 5.95 million to 5.1 million -compared with an 11 percent drop nationally. The decline is attributed to drought; the high cost of feed, fertilizer and fuel; urban sprawl; an aging population of ranchers; tight credit; and the conversion of grazing land to recreational use like deer hunting.

And it won't get better this year, predicted Kevin Good of Cattlefax, a member-owned livestock comsultancy.

"We anticipate it will be the smallest beef cow herd since 1963," Good said from Denver.
No one is outwardly panicking but the gradual decline is particularly painful to feedlot operators concentrated in the Panhandle and High Plains, said John Josserand, president of Hereford-based AzTx Cattle, which has closed two of its operations that fed a combined 80,000 head.
As for jis remaining yards, which have a combined capacity of 180,000 head. there's vacant space. Josserand said.

This time of year, we would be full. We are not this year." he said. "There's a limited number of cattle to by and at a high cost, then there's the high cost of feed.
Josserand's fear is that supermarket price of beef will be driven up so high that people will switch to cheaper meats, eventually making a good rib-eye a cut found mainly in higher-end markets, ........................ - - -

Besides the difference in ability, there is another difference between ourselves and artist; the artist usually feels much more strongly than we do this urge to make beautiful things. Sometimes it is as if he is driven inspiye of himself, herself to express a sort of beauty which is hidden from ordinary eyes, and we find it difficult to understand what he means. He is rather like someone trying to describe to a blind man what the world looks like - a thing so difficult to that only some very strong forces can keep an artist trying.

Both artist use similar compositions for very different reasons, yet in both pictures the crossing verticals and horizontals pass on a feeling of dignity and rest.

museums and art galleries

We all like different pictures and works of art, and we all have our favorite paintings; we might even have our favorite artists. Some of us prefer abstract styles of paintings to pictures which tell a story. We all have different tastes, and this is how it shold be.A rich variety of tastes is better than a boring similarity of likes aand dislikes. Most art galleries and museums try to cater for this wide difference of taste - - though some do specialize, collecting and showing modern pictures or older styles. -----------it will be a good idea to take advantage of such museums and galleries, because by looking at pctures, you will learn much more than by merely reading about them.

After dinner he fell asleep, and on waking he found that it was quite dark. He looked up and there was the moon right high up in the sky.

"oh, Mr. Moon!" he cried, "You do seem a long way away. I think it would be easier for you to come down here than for me to get up there." But Mr. Moon stayed where he was.
. Looking up Willie Mouse saw two big eyes fleaming in the dark. They belonged to Mrs. Owl, and as Willie was only a little mouse he didn't know Mrs. Owl had a special liking for little mice.
"Please, Mrs. Owl," said he, "how can I get to the moon?"
. Down flew Mrs Owl. "This is the way to the moon. she said, and she caught him up in her beak and carried him back to the owl house where she lived...................leaves rustled and there stood Mr. Elf, who jumped to the ground with Willie on his back.
.............Mr. Elf disappeared, and Willie Mouse still thinks that one day he will find the moon and have enough cheese to last him all his life -------------------------------------wiser,too.
